General Questions

What is MercMobile®

MercMobile® allows you to bank anytime, anywhere from your mobile phone. You can elect to use text banking, mobile app banking, or both, depending on your device and mobile service plan.

Is MercMobile® secure?

MercMobile® uses the same security features as internet banking (https, 128-bit SSL encryption, Secure Access Code). 

Where can I find Mercantile's mobile applications to download?

We recommend you use our bank website to research which apps have been developed for the various devices which are supported. Below are the links for accessing these apps:

Do I have to have a particular phone or service?

You must have a text plan to use text banking and a data plan to access browser banking.

What happens if I change my wireless provider or mobile number?

Make sure you have the MercMobile app installed on your device and login as usual.

What if my phone is lost or stolen?

You may want to change your password, until you locate or replace your device. Just login to Internet Banking with your computer and go to Settings, Security Preferences.

How do I transfer the MercMobile® service to a new device?

For iPhone and Android users, you must remove the installed app from the old device, and then add it to the new one.

What is the cost for MercMobile®?

MercMobile® is free of charge, however, you may incur text or data charges from your wireless provider.

How do I opt out?

For mobile banking, you can just uninstall the app. To unenroll in text banking, login to Internet Banking and go to Settings, Text Enrollment, and toggle the On/Off button - you can also text "stop" to 226563.

Can I use multiple devices to access MercMobile®?

Only 1 device can be used for MercMobile® text banking, however multiple devices can be used for MercMobile® app banking.

Getting Started

How do I enroll in MercMobile®?

You are automatically enrolled to use mobile banking. You will just need to download the MercMobile app and login with your credentials.

Text Banking

What does SMS mean?

SMS stands for Short Messaging Service. It is also called text messaging.

How many text messages will I receive daily?

When you complete enrollment you will receive two SMS messages confirming your registration. Thereafter you will receive a message in response to each SMS request you submit. If you have a large number of accounts, you may receive more than one message in order to report all of your account balances.

What number do I send text commands to?

The short code for MercMobile® is 226563. Send all text/SMS mobile banking requests to this number.

What text commands can I use with MercMobile®?

For example, if you text BAL, you will receive a response with your account balance. If you have several accounts, it might be sent in 2 messages.

Do I always have to capitalize my text commands?

Text commands are not case sensitive. Sending "help" or "HELP" or "Help" are all permitted.

How much will I be charged for each text received?

MercMobile® is free of charge, however, your wireless provider's standard text messaging and other rates may still apply.

When I try to enroll in text banking by sending a yes, I get a message that says 'unrecognized command'. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you have "signatures" (Text Message Settings) turned off when using text banking. If you continue to experience issues, please call Online Support. The contact information is listed at the top of the page.

Mobile Application Banking

How does it work?

Download the MercMobile app and login with your login credentials.

Can I use my iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad?

Yes, all are compatible with MercMobile®. There is also an app available for download via iTunes.

Can I use my Android phone or tablet?

Yes. You can find the MercMobile® app for both in the Google Play Store.

Can I view all of my accounts?

Yes.

Can I view all of my account balances?

Each time you login to MercMobile® , the most current balances will be displayed.

How do I change my login ID or password?

Your login is the same as you use for Internet Banking. If you need to change it, you can select "forgot password" at the login screen, or go to Settings, Security Preferences.

Can I pay my bills?

You can pay any existing payee you already established in Internet Banking by clicking the Bill Payment option from the main menu. You can also add new payees.

How do I access Personal Payments?

You can access Personal Payments by choosing P2P by PayPal from the Transactions menu.

What is Merc Personal Payments?

Merc Personal Payments is the ability via Mercantile Internet Banking to make payments anytime, anywhere. All you need is the recipient's email address or cell phone number, no exchange of personal banking information is required. Once you send the payment, the recipient receives a text message and/or email confirming receipt of the funds. The service is powered by PayPal™, a payments network with over 78 million users worldwide. Mercantile Bank of Michigan is the first bank in the U.S. to offer this mobile payments platform using PayPal™.

Why would I use it?

Paying via Merc Personal Payments is instant and easy for anything "on the go" or "spur of the moment" - no need to find an ATM, no hassling with checks. The possibilities are unlimited. Some common needs might be:

  • Split the tab at a restaurant/bar
  • Pay the babysitter, lawn service, house cleaner, etc.
  • Collect funds for causes - charitable donations, going in together on baby shower gifts, etc.
  • Purchases at garage sales, craft shows, eBay, home parties (candles, kitchenware, jewelry, etc.)
  • Pay the kids (at college, allowances, at the mall, etc.)

How do I claim a payment?

  • All recipients must go to PayPal.com to claim a payment.
  • If you already have an account, you must login to your PayPal™ account to claim your funds.
  • If you do not already have a PayPal™ account, you will need to create one by visiting PayPal.com.
  • If you have received a payment via your mobile phone, you will need to add your mobile number to your PayPal™ profile in order to send and receive payments from your phone.

How much does it cost?

Merc Personal Payments is free of charge.

How do I enroll?

All Mercantile internet banking users will automatically have access to Personal Payments.

How does it work?

  1. Choose the P2P by PayPal option in the Transactions menu
  2. Enter the required information and submit!
  3. History should appear on the same screen.

*Access to Merc Personal Payments requires an active Mercantile Internet Banking profile. The service will be terminated if Internet Banking is deactivated.

There is no exchange of personal information between the sender and recipient.

Do I need to have a PayPal™ account?

You do not need to have a PayPal™ account to send payments.

How does the recipient retrieve the funds?

  1. The recipient gets an email or text message instantly alerting them of the payment.
  2. If the recipient has a PayPal™ account with the phone number or email registered, the funds are automatically sent to their PayPal® account and available to use for purchases/transfers/etc. immediately.

What if the recipient does not have a PayPal™ account?

That person will need to sign up for a PayPal™ account in order to retrieve the money.
